when we
describe a place, building, city or country we use the common phrase
"there is" and "there are". we use these phrases to
indicate that something exists. we forme the phrase with "there" and
the verb "to be".
AFFIRMATIVE
FORM
* we use
there is when we have only one object. For example
There is a
book on the table.
* we use
there are when we have more than object. For example
There are
two apples in the basket.
NEGATIVE
FORM
To make
this form we add "not" to the form "there is" and
"there are".
* There is
not a book on the table.
*There are
not two apples in the basket.
OTHER
FORMS:
* There
will be a concert tomorrow. (future)
* There was
a concert yesterday. (past)
* There
were some parties yesterday. (past)
* There
have been three demolitions in the street. (past perfect)
